Not exactly double-secret probation after this food fight, 50 years ago

In 1967, 12 students at La Crosse State were suspended for their roles in a couple of demonstrations. including an apparently spontaneous food “riot” in a cafeteria that lasted only about a minute.  Hundreds of students marched downtown that same night.  Ninety other students were disciplined.

Two more dorms opened on the La Crosse campus that fall…Sanford Hall, near the football stadium, and Hutchison Hall near the Whitney Center food service.  Sanford was for men, and was named for former history department head Albert Sanford.  “Hutch” Hall, for women, was named after Bessie Bell Hutchison from the English department.  Both dorms are still standing, and both of those teachers joined the college the year it opened, 1909. 

There was a Pizza Hut on the Causeway in ’67.  Cheapest pizza, a small plain cheese pizza for $1.05.  For over $2, you could get a large pizza with toppings including mushrooms, anchovies, or hamburger…50 years ago, yesterday in La Crosse.
