Local government planning group ponders its purpose

The La Crosse Area Planning Committee gathered in La Crosse for a Wednesday meeting

An local government planning group may be ready to welcome more members from around the area. 

The La Crosse Area Planning Committee (LAPC) works on joint transportation issues shared by several local governments in the region. 

The committee is looking to reach into Minnesota. 

La Crescent Mayor Mike Poellinger thinks counties might want to get involved with the LAPC more than towns would, because counties do a large amount of planning.    

Several communities in La Crosse County belong to the planning committee, mainly larger ones close to La Crosse. 

Smaller towns in rural parts of the county generally don’t take part in urban planning projects. 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
