“Social Security in danger” is a warning coming from government workers, who are worried that cuts by Congress could prevent many Americans from getting benefit payments on time.

Government employees stood outside the La Crosse Social Security office on Thursday to protest the proposed federal reductions. Representing the American Federation of Government Employees Council in Wisconsin, Jessica La Pointe of Madison said cuts in funding for the Social Security system can have harmful effects on people waiting for their checks.

“It can take up to 4 months or more to get an appointment to file for retirement benefits,” said La Pointe. “It can take up to 8 months to get an initial disability decision on an application.”

La Pointe says thousands of Americans a year die while waiting for delayed Social Security checks, and millions of others are going bankrupt. She says paying the bureau’s workers properly can reduce delays for customers.

Similar picketing has been done in other cities around the state since late March.

Someone should inform “Jessica LaPoint of Madison” that one doesn’t need to wait “up to four months or more” (whatever that means) to file for retirement benefits. One can file on-line in 20 minutes.

There are no bills before Congress to reduce Social Security benefits.

    Astro turf.

You want to protect your social security benefits, quit voting for democrats and squishy republicans. They may provide you some immediate gratification, however that joy and elation will quickly end. In fact, it’s in the process of ending now. That $1 Trillion dollar interest payment we(your taxes) are making on all that borrowed money, the accelerating decreased value of the dollar, all that and more is a result of democrat and squishy republicans voting for a continuous increase in governement spending, with no proportionate increase in productivity! You know that spending that sends hundreds of billions of dollars to countries like Ukraine, Iran, Iraq etc….to increase the wealth of those folks at the top of the defense industry pyramid & their purchased crony politicians! You know people like Biden, Pelosi & McConnell et al…..

Vote for who you want, elections have consequences, and voting for folks that vote you into increasing debt (higher and higher taxes), are not working for you!
