La Crescent Mayor Mike Poellinger joined La Crosse Talk PM on Tuesday to discuss Minnesota legalizing recreational marijuana and just how that will affect the city. We also talked about bike paths in every direction out of La Crescent, and the city’s upcoming 75th Applefest celebration.

La Crosse Talk PM airs weekdays at 5:06 p.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.

Before all that, however, a rant about Wisconsin Republicans completely flipping on early voting with a nationwide campaign, except they’re not calling it early voting.

The last time Poellinger was on, we discussed the city’s new bike-pedestrian bridge over Highway 14. Tuesday, though, we discussed plans for a bicycle trail that would connect La Crescent and Hokah, another heading down the bike to La Crosse, that would include a bridge over the west channel of the Mississippi River, as well as the potential for an I-90 bike bridge, in which the highway is already set up for.

After that, talked about legalization and how smoking marijuana may not be permitted in public spaces. We also discussed the potential for marijuana dispensaries opening in the city.

Lastly, we hit on the 75th celebration of Applefest coming in September.

I’m a transplant from Boston living in LA Crescent. I find it ridiculous that liquor/drinking is so prevalent and “ok” here. Yet cannabis is going to be strongly regulated. Read the facts. Marijuana is far less harmful than alcohol in every way. I enjoyed your interview.
