A 19-year-old driver from La Crosse is suspected of driving drunk and causing a near head-on crash this morning in Vernon County.
Brett Lowen reportedly tried to pass another car around 1:30 a.m. Friday on Highway 35 near Stoddard, and crashed into an oncoming car.
The other driver, a 35-year-old man from Iowa, had to be freed from his car by rescue workers, and was taken to Gundersen in La Crosse for treatment.
Lowen’s car traveled another 100 yards after the collision, and landed in a ditch.
Police arrested Lowen after he was treated at Mayo for an apparent leg injury.
