Onalaska school board recall election today

Censured board member skips Monday night’s meeting.

The polls are open today within the Onalaska School district for a special election of Board member Jake Speed.

In what could have been his last board meeting, Speed was a no show Monday night.

Former board member Deanna Verdon is on the recall ballot today opposite Speed.

Speed has spent two-plus years on the board in almost constant conflict with other school board members and district staff.

He was censured by the rest of the board earlier this year.

A group that wished to see him out of office collected far more than the needed amount of signatures to force today’s recall election.

Speed has not responded to our requests for an interview.
