Chariots4Hope is a faith-based, non-profit organization that supports low-income families and individuals to maintain self-sufficiency through reliable transportation and RIDE programs. Last year, Nyhus and Laura Schaffer started the WI Chariots 4 Hope Chapter.

Nyhus told Z93’s Morning Buzz the organization helps those that are in need find reliable transportation and also work with economic stability, teaching them how to maintain and continue being a good car owner.

“One of the top three things that keep people from working, getting their kids at school, and getting to doctor’s appointments is just not having reliable transportation,” Schaffer explained to WIZM’s Mike Hayes.

“We have blessed people, we call it, it’s not a gift,” Schaffer continued. “We don’t do handouts, we do hand ups. We work with referral organizations in town… finding those people that are truly in need. Then we go through a vetting process, making sure that they are capable and ready to own a vehicle, because not everybody is, and as they’re nominated, we find a time to bless them with a car.”

It’s not just a vehicle, they have a six month program where recipients learn transportation, sustainability, in terms of knowing and owning a vehicle, how to budget for their next vehicle. That education process is something Schaffer said a lot of folks that are in this situation have never received.

To support their mission, Chariots 4 Hope WI is hosting an all ages, Island-themed fundraising event February 25th at La Crosse’s Concordia Ballroom.

Organizers encourage attendees to dress up in their favorite casual Caribbean outfit, learn more about Chariots 4 Hope Wisconsin, participate in raffles, silent auctions and and door prizes.

Piggy’s will be serving Caribbean themed appetizers and dinner plus, someone will win a Caribbean Vacation.

The Jamaican Me Crazy event will culminate with live music from local reggae/ska rockers, TUGG.

Full Event Tickets are available for $75 online.
