La Crosse will have three locations for absentee voting during the coming election year.

The city council judiciary committee has authorized in-person absentee voting for 2024 at City Hall, the southside neighborhood center on 6th Street, and the northside policing center. City clerk Nikki Elsen says the policing center will give residents of north La Crosse a voting option they may not have had before, noting that the northside building had not been used for absentee balloting before the 2020 election.

Elsen also tells the committee that the remote sites are needed, because the amount of space available for voting at City Hall has decreased in recent years. The full city council will be asked to approve those balloting sites at its September meeting next week.
