No “Solar Plunge” in La Crosse this weekend

The Special Olympics in Wisconsin has “Solar Plunges” scheduled around the state this month.  They’re summertime versions of the popular ‘Polar Plunge’ events, which were called off because of the pandemic last winter. 

La Crosse was supposed to have its own plunge this weekend at Black River Beach, but that has changed. “

“About two weeks ago, our committee made the decision to cancel because we just weren’t getting registrations for the event,” said La Crosse Polar Plunge organizer Kerry Gloede.

She says the La Crosse Plunge for 2022 is on schedule to return next March.  Green Bay still has a Solar Plunge and fun run set for this Saturday.      

Gloede says maybe there are just too many other things going on in the area. Meanwhile, La Crosse’s beaches and swimming pools are opening for the season on Saturday, after being closed last summer.
