City councilman Padesky announces run for Hampson’s District 7 County Board seat

One more La Crosse County Board member will have a challenger in the upcoming election.

Gary Padesky called into La Crosse Talk PM on Tuesday to announce he’s running for a La Crosse County board seat.

Eleven of the 29 county districts are scheduled to have contested board races in April, with no primaries set for next month.

One reason Padesky said he’s running, perhaps stems from his time on the city council and what that could bring to the county board.

“We have some people, not all,” Padesky said, “but some of the people who are on the county board, who seem to forget that they live in the city of La Crosse, and my opponent is one of them in my opinion.

“The city representatives who are on the county board, should be looking out for the city, along with the county.”

Padesky will be running in District 7 — a seat that’s been held by Sharon Hampson since 2012.

Another city council member, Barb Janssen, has also filed to challenge incumbent county supervisors.

Andrea Richmond already sits on both the council and the county board, and is unopposed in her county race.

Five La Crosse County supervisors chose not to run for new terms, including county board chair Tara Johnson.

The general election happens on April 7.
