La Crosse interim police chief expected to be picked Thursday
A temporary police chief for the La Crosse Police Department could be chosen Thursday.
The police and fire commission plans to pick an interim chief at a morning meeting.
Commission member Doug Happel said somebody will be needed to run the department for a short period, because the search process for a new chief could take several weeks.
Current Chief Ron Tischer will step down July 23, after a seven-year tenure. He will be leaving to head the police department in Payson, Arizona.
The commission also will discuss how the recruitment process will work.
