Wisconsin Republicans are ready for next year’s U.S. Senate campaign already and hoping to capture the biggest prize they don’t have yet.

They’re eager to defeat Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin and reclaim a Senate seat the Republican Party has not held for 60 years.

But Baldwin says there are some economic issues in which she agrees with the Republican in the White House.

The Democratic Sen. wouldn’t be the first pick to be supporting President Donald Trump but Baldwin said her positions on certain issues are closer to Trump’s than one might think.

After a speech at Copeland Park in La Crosse on Monday, Baldwin pointed out that Trump has liked one bill she sponsors.

“I talked about my Buy American legislation I said, ‘Let’s work together,'” Baldwin said, adding she hopes to see the Foxconn project bring many jobs to Wisconsin. “And, when he came to Wisconsin and visited Snap-On Tools in Kenosha, he was asked about my legislation and he said he backed it.”

It wasn’t the only thing Baldwin agreed on with Trump.

“One of the interesting things is that he campaigned on renegotiating NAFTA – something I agreed with,” Baldwin said.

Baldwin also said that “Washington is not working for Wisconsin,” and she wants to see the government promote American-made products.

Baldwin said the rich and powerful are still trying to control American jobs. She spoke about the Wausau Paper Company becoming controlled by New York investors over the years, until the three Wausau plants in Wisconsin either were sold or shut down.
