Eagles head to Ripon this weekend

It was a good start of the season for quarterback Tarek Yaeggi.

The 6-foot-2 senior had 306 yards and three touchdown passes in leading the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse football team to a 27-7 win over Luther on Saturday.

Tune in from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday or stop down at the Eagle’s Nest as WKTY’s Dave Carney and UW-L football coach Mike Schmidt look back on the win and preview Saturday’s 1 p.m. game at Ripon College.

Yaeggi was 28-for-44 and connected on touchdowns with Tripp Soma (for 17 yards), Nick Holcomb (30) and Devonte Amos (36) at Veterans Memorial Field.

Amos’ touchdown reception capped off a 13-play, 86-yard drive that gave the Eagles (1-0) a 24-0 lead midway through the third quarter.

UW-L did give up 280 yards on 50 attempts – Anthony Hollingshed went for 136 on 12 carries – but held the Norse to just 93 yards passing.

Mike Santucci led the Eagles with 57 yards on 11 carries. Yaeggi actually had the most rushing attempts (13) and went for 30 yards – he was sacked three times.
