La Crosse at lowest unemployment rate in 16 years

State unemployment rate has also
dropped well below national avg.

 

Hard to get much lower than three percent unemployment.   

That’s where the La Crosse metro measured in September, according to the latest job numbers released by the Wisconsin Dept. of Workforce Development.

That’s the lowest local unemployment rate in the last 16 years.

The agency says the jobless rate dropped both from the month before and is .3 percent below last year at the same time.

The state says the area has 1,500 more people working than in September of last year. Economists generally consider three percent to be full employment.  

Wisconsin, as a whole, has seen its unemployment rate also dip to under four percent, well lower than the national average of five percent.
