Burke expects Clinton’s speech to be
less about doom and gloom, more about policy

Hillary Clinton took a beating at the Republican National Convention last week, but this Thursday, when she accepts the presumed nomination for president, she’ll have the chance to respond.

La Crosse County Democratic party chair Vicki Burke, however, expects Clinton’s speech Thursday to be a policy filled, instead of responding to personal attacks levied against her from the Republican convention.

“I think that she needs to make sure that people know who she is,” Burke said. “I think that she will present her vision for American and that she will talk about issues that are important to all of us every day.”

Burke does not expect Clinton to speak along the same lines that Donald Trump took in his acceptance speech. Trump’s speech, however, wasn’t surprising to her.

As a national delegate, Burke will be in Philadelphia to watch Clinton accept the party’s nomination for president.

Burke says the historical significance isn’t lost on her.

“I see young girls, they are just enthralled when they get to meet Hillary,” Burke said. “And they have an opportunity to grow up in a country where they know a woman can become president of the United States.”

The Republicans had their turn last week. Now, they’ll watch as the Democratic party gives the country its future vision.

Sen. Bernie Sanders and First Lady Michelle Obama will have primetime speeches tonight, along with Bill Clinton. Barack Obama will speak Wednesday.

One person who will not be taking the stage is Democratic Party Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who resigned after (another) email controversy.
