Kids soliciting, then pocketing money, saying it’s for animal shelter

Sparta residents asked kids shelter
name, which they couldn’t provide

SPARTA, Wis. – Seems as though some Sparta folks were taken for their money in what they thought was a good deed.

A group of kids were going around Sparta neighborhoods recently soliciting donations, which they claimed were for the Animal Shelter. But when some residents asked the kids what the shelter was called, they couldn’t tell them.

As it turns out, the youngsters were actually just collecting money and pocketing it for themselves.

Cops warn that the Monroe County Animal Shelter cannot solicit donations in this way. If they do have a fundraising event, they would have proper documentation of what the money is actually going to support. Cops say if your approached by anyone asking for money for the shelter, call the shelter or the cops.
