Prescription Bill Named for Vet Who Died From VA Drugs
It’s a major piece of legislation. Combat Opioid Abuse. And Senator Tammy Baldwin is behind the push to garner support for the bill.
On August 30, 2014, Marine Veteran Jason Simcakoski died at the Tomah VA Medical Center as a result of mixed drug toxicity. Baldwin said the Jason Sicakoski Memorial Opioid Safety bill would provide the VA with the tools it needs to help prevent this type of tragedy from occurring to other veterans and their families.
Baldwin says these problems must be confronted more safely and more effectively to help veteran’s meet that challenge. She says she believe the VA’s overreliance on opioids has resulted in getting veterans hooked instead of getting them the help they deserve.
