9th Biggest Story Of 2014

Parking is just…parking.  But changes to parking can also get people
riled up.  Which is partially why parking changes in La Crosse wound up on our newsroom’s list of top ten stories for 2014 at number nine.  Changes to parking ramp was part of that.  The city began charging for parking in the ramps.  Although there have been ongoing problems with broken gates in the ramps, costing the city thousands of dollars in repairs.  But, in the spring, there was also the surprise announcement of proposals for strict citywide regulations on street parking.  Proposals that drew fire at a few public hearings.
Lori Bendel, one of the many who spoke at the hearings.  The city has since shelved those parking plans in favor of a more targeted approach.  Meanwhile, the city has installed surveillance cameras to catch those breaking gates in the ramps and a few perpetrators have been ticketed.
