Sawyer County Man Dies In Monroe County Crash

A 22 year old Sawyer County man died late Tuesday night outside

Cataract in Monroe County after being in a two car crash.

 

Just before midnight, 73 year old Carolyn Diekmann of rural Sparta called 911 to report the crash. At the time of the call the location of the second car was unknown and believed to have left the scene. Emergency personnel located the second vehicle several hundred feet north of the accident scene over an embankment on the west side of Highway 27. The unnamed Sawyer County was found dead in the vehicle.

Deputies say the 22 year old crossed the center line and into the path of 68 year old John Halbrehder of rural Sparta. Both Halbrehder and Diekmann received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Mayo Clinic Health Care in Sparta.
