Less than a day after a house fire, the La Crosse Fire Department was in the industrial park fire Thursday.

Heavy fire and smoke were coming from a large hopper around 7:30 p.m. at a construction company near 2601 Conoco Road — across from where County Road B intersects with Highway 16, according to the department.

Smoldering materials near some welding work could have been the cause but the department said it’s still under investigation.

It took the department five minutes to get to the scene and 21 firefighters were on hand. The fire department said it was under control quickly and extinguished a short time later.

No word on whether anyone was hurt.

Wednesday night, the department had to put out a fire on Caledonia Street. In between that news, it became public that Fire Chief Ken Gilliam will be resigning next month.
