The 147th Kentucky Derby is May 1 and HorseSense is teaming up with The Charmant once again for a fun way to celebrate locally, at home.

HorseSense is a local non-profit that offers therapeutic horseback riding lessons to youth, adults, and Military Veterans with disabilities.

HorseSense Executive Director, Samantha Hall, talked to the Z93 Morning Buzz about their organization and how to participate in their fundraising event.

“So whether it’s a four year old kiddo with autism or blindness or maybe a veteran with PTSD, HorseSense is a place where people come and find solace and comfort and a welcoming environment where they can kind of work out those different issues through a relationship with the horse.”

They will be selling Mint Julep cocktail kits for people to purchase, and that way they can go home and make up the signature drink of the Derby in the safety and comfort of their home.

Hall said, “This year we’re adding a 50/50 Cash raffle so those ticket sales will be available at The Charmant so people can win big. Tickets are $10 each.

“Then we have the hat decorating contest, because what’s the derby without the big, beautiful hats? So, we invite the community to create a big, extravagant hat and enter that into the contest to win a free night stay at the Charmant.”

The Kentucky Derby Mint Julep Cocktail Kits are limited and can be pre-ordered for $50 by calling the Charmant at (608) 519-8800. The last day to pre-order is Tuesday, April 27 and pick ups at the Charmant are from 4p-6p on April 28, 29, and 30. The 50/50 cash raffle tickets will be available for purchase during these times as well.
