Wisconsin goes from 7 months to hit 100k cases to 18 days, as La Crosse adds 166, Winona suffers 23rd death

It took the state seven months for the state of Wisconsin to hit 100,000 COVID-19 cases. It took 36 days for it to hit 200,000. And now, over 300,000 cases, that only took Wisconsin 18 days.

In La Crosse County, another 166 cases of the virus reported Friday, bringing the total to 6,184. County residents hospitalized increased by five over night to 183 total.

So far in November, 43 La Crosse County residents have been hospitalized because of the virus. As per Wednesday’s update, county hospitals were admitting 19.7 patients a day per 100,000 the past week.

La Crosse has seen triple digit cases 10 of the past 16 days, including over 200 on two occasions during that span. Before that, La Crosse had a total of seven days over 100 cases — all back in mid-September after college students returned to campus.

The positivity rate in the county is 32.3% the past week, according to the Coulee COVID-19 Collaborative dashboard. La Crosse is averaging 132 cases a day over that time.

In surrounding counties, Winona suffered a 23rd death from the virus — a person aged 85-89. It’s the second death in the past four days in the county. Multiple counties have residents hospitalized in th double digits, as can be seen below.


Here’s a look at other stats from surrounding counties:
TREMPEALEAU: 42 new cases (47.3/day past week – 1,668 total – 579 active – 14 hospitalized)
JACKSON: 73 new cases (47.7/day past week – 1,170 total – 425 active – 13 hospitalized)
MONROE: 116 new cases (56.1/day past week – 1,932 total – 513 active – 6 hospitalized)
VERNON: 8 new cases (19.9/day past week – 232 active – 11 hospitalized)
WINONA: 62 new cases (47.1/day past week – 1,943 total)
HOUSTON: 23 new cases (16.9/day past week – 438 total)


Statewide, another daily record with 7,777 cases, and near records with 274 more hospitalized and 58 deaths in Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, in Minnesota a near-record 46 deaths from COVID, including the 22nd death out of Winona County — a person aged 85-89.

The state added 5,552 cases — the fourth time over 5,000, though Thursday there were 7,228 cases — while another 201 were hospitalized.

Iowa added 5,485 cases and 19 deaths in a 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. Friday.
