City of La Crosse advises against trick-or-treating
In a typical year, the City of La Crosse and various departments will offer general guidance and safety information for families and individuals enjoying Halloween, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tone shifted.
The La Crosse Police Department says it received many questions from the community about “Trick or Treat” or “Meet and Treat” activities for Halloween as case numbers continue to rise locally. The city’s recommendation is that people follow guidance from the Wisconsin Department of Health Service.
“While we understand Halloween is an exciting event for many kids and adults alike, following the DHS recommendations is a reasonable response in light of the significant spike in cases locally,” La Crosse Police said in a statement from Captain Jason Melby.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Service specifically recommends avoiding traditional trick-or-treating from neighbor to neighbor and having in-person contact. It also suggests postponing any indoor parties and celebrations that would take place in person.
