“Silent City” tours postponed until Sunday

Weather is forcing a delay of the yearly living history event this weekend at La Crosse’s Oak Grove Cemetery. 

The ‘Silent City’ tours of the cemetery will happen this Sunday, because of a threat of rain on Saturday. 

Tickets for the tours are sold out, partly because tour groups are being kept small to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

During the walk through the cemetery, actors portray interesting people in the history of La Crosse, and this year’s theme is the 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote.  

Historical Society director Peggy Derrick says planners have already settled on a theme for next year’s event: “Made in La Crosse,” to recognize local industries and inventors.

   

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
