Among the 24 new cases of COVID-19 reported in La Crosse County on Saturday — the second-highest single-day total — was a boy, who is 0 to 4 years old.

Fifteen of the cases were people in their 20s. There was also one teenager (15-19).

The county set a single-day high on Saturday and has had its Top 5 daily highs in each of the past five days.

La Crosse County is now at 244 total cases — 189 of those in June, 112 in the past five days. There are currently 145 cases considered active.

The rise in cases even got attention in the New York Times on Friday, which wrote: “But there were also worrisome signs in those same regions. Case numbers have started trending upward again in Kansas after weeks of falling. The La Crosse, Wis., area is experiencing a period of explosive case growth. And new trouble spots have cropped up in parts of Missouri, Iowa and Pennsylvania.”

The positive test percentage rate in the county has now jumped to 2.6. It was 1.3 percent on June 10, when the health department started posting the stat.

Nobody from the county is currently hospitalized. Nobody has ever died from the virus from the county.

This is the 22nd consecutive day with at least on case in the county and 19th day in a row with multiple cases. La Crosse went 13 consecutive days in April with zero cases.

Friday, the health department notified the public of 12 places in the county that were considered hot spots and it is likely a person would have been exposed to the virus if there during certain days. That list can be found here.

In counties surrounding La Crosse, Houston reported three more cases and is at 10 total. Winona is up to 94, after one more cases. Vernon, Trempealeau and Buffalo counties have yet to report Saturday cases.
