La Crosse confirms first COVID-19 case in two weeks, as state reports most cases

For the first time in two weeks, La Crosse County has a new confirmed case of COVID-19.

The total cases for the county is now 27 but 26 have recovered. Only three have had to go to the hospital.

Statewide, Wisconsin had five more deaths and 304 more cases — the most cases in a single day.. The totals in the state are now 262 deaths from 5,356 cases.

Of the confirmed cases, 52 percent are white (2,795), while 24 percent are black (1,296). Another 14 percent the person’s race isn’t known.

The Wisconsin Department of Health also put out these stats: five percent of cases have died (257 through Thursday) from the virus — one died from other causes.

Another 46 percent have recovered (2,313), while the other 2,481 cases diagnosed in the past 30 days are still recovering.

Wisconsin has tested 59,929 people — 25 percent of those have had to be hospitalized. The state’s current testing capacity is 10,937 a day with 48 labs performing tests.

In April, the state has tested an average of 1,717 people per day.
