A 28-year-old man from De Soto has been killed in Vernon County’s first fatal crash of 2020.

Kyle Deegan died Saturday afternoon, when his utility vehicle went out of control on an ATV route in the town of Wheatland and struck a power pole.

Deegan and two backseat passengers were ejected, while a front-seat passenger was wearing a seat belt and remained in the vehicle, and did not require a hospital trip.

The two passengers who were thrown from the UTV were taken to Gundersen in La Crosse, where they were treated for serious injuries.

The sheriff’s office says alcohol appears to be a factor.
