Peoria, Ill. — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers will have to issue a warrant to bring a murder suspect back to La Crosse from Illinois.

Shavonte Thompson of La Crosse made his first appearance in Peoria County Court on Monday, after being arrested as a fugitive last week in Peoria.

Thompson is accused of killing 18-year-old Javier Hall, near Copeland Park in La Crosse, Nov. 2.

He’s being held in the Peoria jail without bond.

Thompson will return to court there on Jan. 23, if he hasn’t been transported back to La Crosse by then.
