Retired Prairie du Chien superintendent Mulrooney dies at 95

A long-time school superintendent in Prairie du Chien has died. 

John Mulrooney passed away on Sunday at the age of 95. 

Mulrooney was a Grant County native, who earned his teaching degree in La Crosse Teachers College in 1949. He spent most of his career in education in Prairie du Chien. 

Mulrooney started as a teacher and coach before becoming superintendent in 1962, and served in that position for 29 years. 

The Prairie du Chien High School football field and track are named after Jack Mulrooney. 

Services are scheduled Friday at St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie, and visitation will be on Thursday at Prairie du Chien High School.

Mulrooney is the father of retired La Crosse Logan High School track coach Pat Mulrooney.
