La Crosse loses out to Nebraska for quidditch tourney

Nebraska got the edge over the city of La Crosse in landing a regional tournament of a sport, invented for the Harry Potter books and movies.

Last week, it was announced that the U.S. Quidditch association had narrowed the location for a Midwest tournament this fall, and in 2020, to two cities — La Crosse and Papillion, Nebraska, a suburb of Omaha.

Late Friday, the association revealed its list of host sites for the next two years, and Papillion made the cut.

The national finals for the Quidditch Cup will be held next year in Charleston, West Virginia, and then in Salt Lake City in 2021.

The Omaha area already has an active quidditch community, including a team for the sport at Creighton University.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
