La Crosse might still qualify for quidditch in the future

A quidditch tournament will not be coming to La Crosse for the next two years but the city had a good shot at it.

Papillion, Nebraska, was chosen over La Crosse to host a regional quidditch championship this year and in 2020.

Quidditch organizers were enthusiastic about the Coulee Region, according to Explore La Crosse staffer Ben Morgan.

“They loved La Crosse County,” Morgan said, “and everything we had to offer.”

Morgan, however, thought Papillion got the nod because it has an indoor arena that is suitable for the sport from the Harry Potter books, and because there are active quidditch teams now in the Omaha area.

La Crosse was one of two finalists for the tournaments scheduled in October or November, but doesn’t apparently have an indoor facility.

Morgan added that La Crosse may still be on the radar of the quidditch league for future events.
