Money for design of Memorial Pool to get vote by city council

For those pining away for a Memorial Pool replacement in La Crosse, it won’t happen this year.

Next year might also be a stretch, as well.

It does, however, look like, at least, a design could be on the books after this summer.

Next month, the city council votes on whether to spend $200,000 on that design, along with soil borings and anything else that goes with the preliminary steps of creating a new pool where the old, leaky one was next to UW-La Crosse.

Since its gates closed for the last time in 2015, there has been ongoing debate about where to build the new pool.

Last year, a consultant ranked Forest Hills Golf Course the No. 1 option. The site near UW-L was ranked fourth on that list of seven, yet the city council voted to build a new pool on the same site anyway.

The $200,000 to be voted on — and likely approved — has already been accounted for in the city’s budget for this year.
