La Crosse woman faces drug charges after finding daughter dead, possibly from overdose

Drugs and paraphernalia found in north side house where young mother died

A La Crosse woman who called 9-1-1 to report that her daughter may have died of an overdose is charged with drug possession herself. 

Fifty-year-old Roberta Draheim is charged with three counts of possessing meth or drug paraphernalia, which could add up to 16 years in prison.

A criminal complaint says Draheim reported finding her adult daughter, Britney Masewicz, dead in a bedroom at their Kane Street home early Monday. 

Britney’s two young children also were living at the house. 

Draheim said she thought Britney had snorted heroin. 

Police say a baggie which appeared to contain heroin was found in the living room, and gem bags of meth were discovered throughout the house, along with a scale, several safes, and a BB gun. 

Britney was declared dead at the scene, and police believe Draheim was under the influence of drugs at the time. 

The exact cause of Britney’s death has not been determined yet. 

Draheim has been released from jail on a signature bond, and more charges could be filed.
