State justice department investigating Jackson county police shooting
Police provide few details of shooting.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating the fatal shooting of a man by a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy on Saturday.
It started as a disorderly conduct and possible restraining order call early Saturday morning.
Sheriff Duane Waldera said the 27-year-old man led police on a chase to the house of the person who made the initial complaint.
The fatal shooting happened sometime during or after the chase just east of Black River Falls. Exactly how the shooting took place is unclear at this point.
The deputy who fired the shots has been placed on administrative duty while the death is being investigated.
Neither the deputy involved nor the man who was killed have not been identified.
The deputy has been placed on administrative leave.
Waldera says the Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation will examine the case and forward recommendations to the Jackson county district attorney.
