English trucker’s first trip to U.S. and he spends it with 95.7 the Rock

Greenway is scheduled to be on Phish’s show this afternoon between 3 and 7 p.m.

An English truck driver who loves rock music is making his first visit to America at the invitation of a La Crosse radio personality.

Carl Greenway of Derby, England, has been touring the area over the weekend with his host, Benjamin “Phish” Rask from 95.7 the Rock.

Thanks to the TuneIn app, Greenway stumbled upon 95.7 the Rock the same day his daughter was born. Five years later, he’s learning how Americans eat, drink and rock – as he attended the Guns ‘n Roses concert at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Sunday.

“I’m absolutely fascinated with what I’m seeing,” he said. “It’s patriotic. It’s big. The food is amazing. The beer is good.”

Greenway, who will be on air between 6-10 a.m. today with the Morning Sickness crew on 95.7 the Rock, even brought over some cigars.

“The friendship has grown over the years,” Greenway said of getting to know Rask. “Having a chance to have a cigar with him has always been something we’ve talked about. So, I bought a couple of cigars from Ireland when I stop there on the way over.”

Since Greenway arrived in Chicago on Friday, he’s been to Grandad Bluff, a few local pubs and, of course, eaten cheese curds. He also tried biscuits and gravy, which puzzled him before he had it, because in England, biscuits are what they call cookies.

Greenway gives credit to the Rask, the radio station and the internet for making it possible. We’ll see if he makes it home after a week with the Rock.
