Council approves sale of old Buzz’s Bikes shop for $10

City has over $300,000 invested in 130-year-old building.

La Crosse city hall is close to washing its hands of one of what could be one of the all time worst real estate investments.  

And $10 will seal the deal for the north side property.

Thursday, the city council approved selling the old Buzz’s Bikes store on Rose St. for that price. 

Between purchase, back taxes and repairs, the city has put well over $300,000 into the 130-year-old former bank and Masonic temple.

The city is still on the hook for water main repairs to the building.  

The still-crumbling building is thought by the city to be essential for economic revitalization on the north side, and the hopes are it will spur further development after renovation. 

RMD Development pledges to revitalize the building by putting two high end apartments on the second floor and commercial space on the first.
