City council member happy with decision making Losey 25 mph

Police have ticketed numerous people still doing over 40.

No regrets from La Crosse city council member Gary Padesky with the new, slower speed limit on Losey Blvd.

Padesky, who pushed hard for 25 miles per hour on Losey, says he’s had an earful from critics.

“Most of the people,” Padesky said, “that are complaining – and they live in Onalaska, Holmen, Medary; they live on 25 mph, nice safe streets – and for whatever reason, they want to race through Losey because a lot of them still think it’s a highway.”

Regardless, he sees it as a good change for safety and other reasons and he’s not impressed with those who say otherwise.

“Really, it’s kind of selfish for people to say, ‘I can’t take that extra minute out of my life,'” Padesky said on WIZM Thursday afternoon.

The speed limit, which was 30 mph, has been in effect for just a few days and police have ticketed numerous drivers still going over 40 on the busy street.

Padesky feels the new speed limit will be more welcoming for those wanting to move into that area.

“It will make a difference when people start looking for houses again and if they have a family or pet and they’re a little bit worried about the speed out there,” he said, adding it could mean property values along the four-lane eventually increase.

I wonder what Gary thinks of a north/south corridor. 25 on Losey would be fine if there was a good way to get from one end of town to another in a timely way.

As for those terrible people in Onalaska and Holmen that drive into La Crosse to work, use the medical facilities and spend money at local businesses….I guess they can just find somewhere else to go??
