UW-L needs two wins Monday to get back to College World Series

Eagles took down St. Thomas to get to Regional title matchup.

WHITEWATER, Wis. — Its a game away from a third consecutive College World Series.

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team has advanced to the Division III Midwest Regional championship, after an 8-3 win Sunday over St. Thomas.

At 10 a.m. Monday, the Eagles (31-18) will play Concordia (Ill.) at UW-Whitewater. Because UW-L lost Saturday, it will have to beat Concrodia twice in the double-elimination tournament in order to advance.

Neither UW-L, St. Thomas (29-18) or Concorida (32-11) is ranked in the D3baseball.com Top 25, though Concordia was receiving votes when the poll came out May 16.

The Cougars handed the Eagles their first loss of the regional Saturday, 14-0.

In Sunday’s win, UW-L scored five in the second inning and never looked back.

Sam Prissel started things off with a single to leadoff the inning and capped off the scoring – as the team batted through the order – with an RBI walk with the bases loaded.

Prissel was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the game. Teammate Nate Heili was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a stolen base for the Eagles.
