Good news for home sellers, bad for buyers in La Crosse County

Statewide, sales are through the roof.

It was a big quarter for home sales in Wisconsin as a whole but not so much for La Crosse County.

That, according to the latest report from the Wisconsin Realtors Association. The group says, after a relatively flat first couple of months for sales, March rebounded in a big way statewide, boosting home sales to record levels.

Sales and sale prices were both up over 5 percent for March. The organization says it’s the best March and best first quarter they have on record. 

Home sales in La Crosse County, however, were down by nearly 9 percent for the first three months of the year. 

Local realtors blame a lack of homes for sale for the relatively slow market around La Crosse, though the growing demand is pushing prices higher.

Among the positive economic conditions cited by the group affecting home sales in the state is solid job growth and a low level of unemployment.
