Public works director has flattering, parting words for La Crosse city council

Hexom’s retirement leads to city eliminating dept.

Three department heads in La Crosse’s city hall are heading out the door by the end of the month.

One had some flattering words about the direction of the city, addressing the city council for the last time last night at the monthly meeting. 

“This city is alive, it’s vibrant,” Public Works director Dale Hexom said. “Each of you that have been a part of this over the last decade or so can be very proud of what you have accomplished.

“The changes are remarkable and La Crosse has had and continues to have many more cranes in the air than almost any other community of our size and larger in the past decade and a half.”

Hexom’s retirement has led to the elimination of the city’s public works dept. altogether. He spent 11 years at the job. Also retiring are the the city’s finance director and transit manager.
