Group hits goal in finding homeless La Crosse area veterans permanent homes

The collaborative will find another group to help next

Turns out the effort to end homelessness among veterans didn’t meet the goal. It exceeded the goal.

Back in September, the La Crosse Collaborative to End Homelessness aimed to find homes for the 12 vets that were identified as needing permanent shelter. The goal was to do it in 100 days or by Christmas.

As of late last week, the group had found homes for that dozen plus a couple more that had been identified.

“It’s a true testament to what can happen if people focus their efforts and come together over a common issue and decide that we’re going to do something about it,” said Kim Cable with Coulee Cap, which is part of the effort.

There’s plenty of credit to go around.

“We’ve had a huge outpouring of landlords who have been interested in our initiative and have signed up to provide units for the veterans,” Cable said. 

Next up, the group plans to identify another group that needs help finding homes.
