Trump is “closest we’ve come to electing a genuine fascist,” says WI Democracy Campaign director

Could Trump crack down on protesters? 

Typically, Matthew Rothschild talks about the influence of money in politics.

And that was the primary reason for the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign executive director spoke at Viterbo University on Tuesday night.

But Rothschild has also been pretty vocal about his concerns relating to the election of Donald Trump as president.

“I want to say I’m despondent but I am very fearful,” Rothchild said on WIZM Tuesday afternoon. “I’m fearful because this is the closest we’ve ever come to electing a genuine fascist.

“I do think we need to try and let Donald Trump know that if he starts trying to tear up our democracy, there’s going to be mass protests constantly and it’s not going to be an easy ride for him.”

Rothschild says he’s worried about Trump and lawmakers in Wisconsin cracking down on the protests that are happening now in the wake of the election. That, he says, would be a sure sign of an attack on Americans’ First Amendment rights.
