La Crosse groups teaming up to make city even more biker friendly

Four fix-it stations being installed downtown by Wyatt and BBB

Ryan Cornett likes the trend he’s been seeing.

The La Crosse city council member is a big biking advocate and commutes to work on his bicycle.

As such, he’s into the growing list of amenities the city has to offer for people like him, and there appears to definitely be more people who are like him.

“I think you see (biking) growing in this region more and more,” he said. “You have more people that bike to work than most cities our size. We’re expanding our trails. We’re repairing our trails.”

He’s also a big fan of the latest pro bike addition: small bike repair stations. This month, the Beer By Bike Brigade and Wyatt Bicycle Company have received permission to provide four new stations in downtown La Crosse.

“I’ve used the one down at Riverside (Park) before and they’re very helpful,” Cornett said, “especially when you have chain fall off or you have something serious happen and you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere. 

“Now, you know you have certain stations you can go to throughout the city to repair your bike.”

Those stations cost $1,200 each.
