Bliss Road to close at some point this month

Should happen this month and just for a week

La Crosse’s Bliss Road will close. But just for a week.

The city’s board of public works agreed on Monday to allow the city’s iconic bluff road to shut down sometime this month for a short list of repairs and maintenance.

Mostly to repair a washed out slope downhill from the road. But there will also be some crack repairs on the road, brush and tree clearing alongside of it.

Washed out gullies alongside the road will also be repaired.

So far, it’s unclear when the street will close. It depends in part on a when a contractor can get a particular piece of equipment for the project.

Mostly maintenance; Bliss Road is actually in good shape, says Bob Haines in the city’s public works department and there’s no signs of failure.

It’s mostly just the one slope about three fourths of the way up the hill that’s washed out. Bliss was last closed during a major washout in 2011.
