Track, gym floor project cost around $200,000

Holmen High School is getting a new gym floor, while the middle school is upgrading its track.

The entire cost of the projects – which also includes upgrading the bleachers, among other things – is $200,000.

The floor in the old gym was a long time coming, buildings and grounds director John Daily said.

“We’ve had it sanded a couple times, so the wood has gotten thin,” Daily said. “What happens, it cracks so easily. We’ve replaced so many broken boards. It just got to the point where we just couldn’t patch it anymore.”

The project should be done by the end of July, right about the time the volleyball team comes rolling in for two-a-days.

“We were fortunate to get this bid out very early and allow the contractor to start on that project the last week of school,” Daily said.

After the two-phase project is completed, the Vikings will have new softball and soccer fields, a resurfaced track, a new gym floor and an additional walking path around the outskirts of the property.
