Board taking applications to fill position through June 20

In an emotional meeting, Onalaska school board members were told Alana Havenstrite was resigning her position after seven years for unknown reasons.

“It’s very sad for us as a board,” board president Ann Garrity said at the meeting.

Havenstrite, who started on the board in 2009, talked about the board’s support of her family, following her husband Jon’s death in 2011 from an allergic reaction to a bee sting.

“You guys were all there, and you guys were all there, and you were new,” a teary-eyed Havensrite told the board. “I remember at visitation, I was thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t think of everyone’s names,’ but you were all there, sharing your condolences.”

Members of the public who are interested in taking over Havenstrite’s position are asked to email Kristen Fay ([email protected]) a resume or essay on why you should be selected.

Deadline to apply is 4 p.m. June 20.

A three-person committee will make the decision.
