City looking for funds to repair washout in Hixon that threatens Bliss Rd.

One estimate says it’ll need $500,000

Finding money to fix the washout below Bliss Road in La Crosse might not be easy.

A proposal to begin repairs is in the works, but needs city council to approve it, which would come the first week in June.

There are at least four areas below Bliss that need repairs, the biggest – and newest – of which is pictured above.

It appears the city’s board of public works has leftover money to use for the repairs – a little less than $100,000 leftover from storm-water project funds.

That money, apparently, wouldn’t come close to one estimate that says the area needs over $500,000 in repairs. 

The $100,000 also comes with complications. Some of that money comes from a fund that was supposed to be meant for north side floodplain projects. And there’s resistance from north side city council members to use the money on the chronically distressed road.

The washout has closed two trails in Hixon and is threatening the city’s Forest Hills golf course, where workers, today, were damning up another washout area that was sending debris onto the course.
