Myron Buchholz announced
he’s running for congress

He’s not Bernie Sanders, but Myron Buchholz says he’s definitely been inspired by the surprise presidential contender and his call to change the nation’s economic imbalances.

“He has asked for a political revolution and I am answering that call,” Buchholz said.

Monday, Buchholz announced his bid to run for congress in the democratic primary against entrenched third district congressman Ron Kind.

Buchholz, who sits on the board of the Chippewa Valley ACLU, believes Kind has drifted far too far to the right politically during his nearly 20 years in office.  Where Kind stands on a lot of issues, Buchholz disagrees with.

The retired history professor from Eau Claire, Wis., might never have made an attempt to challenge Kind if he hadn’t been inspired by Sanders and the Vermont senator’s improbable presidential run.

“He has been so consistent for 30 years,” Buchholz said of Sanders. “I like to tell people that I have not been a house member or a senator, but I have been just as consistent on these domestic issues as Bernie Sanders has been.”

Buchholz says it’s Sanders’ call to revolution that inspired him to run, and he’s certain there are plenty out there willing to support him. He’s seen them at Bernie rallies.

“I see the crowds that he draws,” Buchholz said, “and the number of times I have witnessed people who have not traditionally shown up for political events, shown up for a Bernie event.”

Buchholz says Kind, after nearly 20 years in congress, no longer has the best interest of regular Americans at heart.
