One dead in house fire

Two house fires happened in
Western Wisconsin over weekend

At least two house fires have been reported in Western Wisconsin since New Year’s Day.

One led to the discovery of a body in a house at Merrillan, Wis. The fire call was made shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday. An autopsy should determine the cause of that person’s death.

Early Sunday, a bedroom fire was reported in Eleva, Wis., The house was engulfed in flames when firefighters got there.

Three people were able to get out safely, but a cat died in the fire, and the house was a total loss.

One of the residents called the Eleva Fire Department when a wall plug gave off sparks and started the fire.
