A total of five shootings reported on La Crosse’s southside

La Crosse police count a total of five shootings over the weekend on the southside.  The shots started on Friday night and lasted through Sunday afternoon.

Police say the first shooting occurred in the area of 5th and Jackson streets just before nine on Friday night.  While police were investigating what was reported as a drive by on 5th street, they were alerted to the second shooting on Mississippi street.  In both cases, houses were hit but no injuries reported.  Witnesses say they shots came from a silver car.  

The third shooting was reported on 3rd street at about 1:30 Saturday morning.  Police say a 40 year-old man was shot in the foot while standing outside his home.  

About 24 hours later, the fourth shooting was reported in the area of the 900 block of 5th street.  Several shots fired.  Police say several young men were involved but no injuries or property damage were reported.  

On Sunday, a fifth shooting in the early afternoon. A 19 year-old shot and taken to the hospital then later released.   Police think that shooting occurred around the 900 block of south 4th.  A handgun was found in that area.  

Police say the victims are related and all of the shootings could be connected.  They also say there appears to be no danger to the public at large.  The investigation is ongoing and there are no suspects at this point.
